Ruaha National Park

The name is coming from “luvaha”, “great” in Hehe language. The Great Ruaha is the river which is flowing in the eastern side of the park for 160 km. Established in 1964, the area is 12.950 sqkm. THe park is coverde by 4 types of vegetation: fig-trees near the river, open grassland, “miombo” and bushed hills, surrounded by baobab-trees. Each zone is inhabited by different kind of animals. The Great Ruaha attracts during the dry season a lot of impalas, zebras, buffalos, lions, elephants, lesser and greater koudous. Many hippos and crocodiles are living in the river.
